After Canadian authorities imposed travel restrictions to different countries (including Mexico), it will be next September when tourism from this market will be reactivated.
This was stated by Toni Cháves, president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, who said that there is a confirmation from Canadian airlines to reactivate flights to the destination, starting the first days of September 2021.
He explained that, although the strong season for this segment is between November and April, its possible return next September represents an advance for the tourism sector, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also emphasized that the occupancy currently maintained is favorable and very significant.
"Right now we are at approximately 65 percent occupancy in the area, not bad, although compared to previous years it is much lower," he indicated.
Finally, he pointed out that the vaccination against Covid-19 and other measures are increasingly contributing to the opening of more spaces and the possibility of traveling in a safer way.
Air Canada is preparing to return to Mexico with weekly flights from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Also, the relaxation of restrictions will allow Mexicans to travel again to that country as long as they have completed their vaccination schedule with those accepted by the Government of Canada (Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and J&J) at least 14 days prior to travel and meet specific entry requirements for non-essential travel.
